About
Who runs this site
HomeCostData is published by Yije Beak, based in Paju, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. It is independent: it does not sell home improvement work, does not operate a contractor referral network, and has no ownership relationship with any company whose products or prices it discusses.
Why it exists
Home cost guides almost all share one flaw. They give a range without saying where it came from, and the range is wide enough that it cannot be wrong. A homeowner holding a $14,000 quote learns nothing from "typically $8,000 to $22,000".
The inputs that actually set that quote are public. The government measures what roofers, electricians and plumbers earn in each metro area, and it measures what the materials cost. This site does the arithmetic in the open so a reader can see whether the quote in their hand is defensible, and which line in it to question.
What we claim, and what we don't
We publish calculations from federal data. We have not inspected your roof, we do not bid work, and we never write as though we have. The methodology page sets out exactly where each number comes from and what it cannot account for.
